What happens during treatment?

The initial appointment will take 90 mins where a detailed consultation will take place. The Traditional Chinese Medicine modality looks at a patient’s overall health including emotional and physical well-being. Patients will be asked about their main symptoms and health issues by giving a full medical history. I will take your pulse and look at your tongue at the start of every session, some patients may find this strange, but it is an important Part of the diagnostic process according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Depending on your health-related issue, I may conduct a brief physical examination.

Subsequent treatments will take 60 minutes. You are welcome to ask questions about the treatment at any time and decide if acupuncture is right for you.

Acupuncture is a relatively relaxing treatment that involves inserting ultra-fine needles in specific points on the body. The number of needles used depends on your specific condition. Needles will be left in place for 20 mins which is an opportunity for you to relax. The body’s response to acupuncture encourages self-healing. All treatments are tailored to meet your individual needs.

A course of treatments is often recommended. The amount of sessions will depend on your condition for and how your body responds to treatment.

Sometimes patients can get what we call a healing response where you may feel tired or a little worse after treatment, this is entirely normal and part of the body’s own healing process. You may feel an emotional release during the session or feel tired after treatment, this is normal
